Facial Movement Analyser
Facial Weakness Research & Rehabilitation
Facial Movement Recorder & Facial Movement Analyser are a pair of iOS apps that work together to help clinicians, academics, and researchers to monitor, treat, and understand facial weakness
Facial Exercises & Rehabilitation
Facial Movement Analyser creates routines of exercises.
Exercises can be a static pose, or a movement over time.
Each exercise can also have it's own schedule of how often it should be performed.
Users are then invited to join these routines.
Users can see the details of the routine and are free to decide for themselves if they should accept the invitation or not.
Exercise Recording
Users are guided through how to perform their exercises.
Data
Facial Movement Recorder records the value of 52 locations on the face 60 times a second.
This numerical data can be analysed to assess the symmetry and range of motion in the face.
Export
The raw data of exercise performances can be exported into a CSV document for further analysis.
Replay
Performed exercises can be replayed in real time on a 3D model.
Any part of the exercise can be examined in detail.
Augmented Reality
If users are uncomfortable performing exercises with a mirror image of their face, they can use a blurred live view, or a completely augmented mask.
Messaging
Users and analysts can exchange messages privately to talk in detail about their exercises.
Approval
Anyone wishing to use Facial Movement Analyser as an analyst will be manually reviewed to ensure that they have a legitimate interest and purpose to use the service. This is for the safety of all users.
Technology
Facial Movement Recorder & Analyser require an iOS device running iOS 15.0 or higher.
In devices with a TrueDepth camera, also known as the FaceID sensor, Facial Movement Recorder uses the native ARKit to detect and show an augmented reality mask of the users face and record their facial movement.
This provides accurate facial measurements at a high refresh rate.
If a TrueDepth camera isn't available, Facial Movement Recorder is unable to record exercises.
Free
James Coleman built Facial Movement Recorder as a free app. This service is provided by James Coleman at no cost and is intended for use as is.
Privacy
No Image Data
Facial Movement Recorder does not store images or video.
The data stored by Facial Movement Recorder has the same format for all users, and cannot be used to reconstruct facial geometry, or otherwise identify the recorded user.
No Medical Data
Facial Movement Recorder does not store any medical details or history.
Opt-In
Users must choose to accept invitations before performing exercises, and must also provide permission for Facial Movement Recorder to use their front-facing TrueDepth camera to track their face.
These permissions can be voluntarily revoked at any time.
Account Deletion
Users can delete their account at any time.
Encryption
All data stored is fully encrypted at rest.
Information Collection and Use
Facial Movement Recorder saves a record of the user's facial movements using the device's front facing TrueDepth camera. This is the value of 52 facial features. This is to allow the user and an approved analyst to examine the movements through the use of graphs and 3D models. This information is shared with the analyst that created the exercise, who may choose to export the data.
Facial Movement Recorder also uses the TrueDepth camera to track the users head movements to show them an augmented reality representation of their face. This feature must be opted into, and the user will be prompted that the app wishes to access the camera on their device.
Facial Movement Recorder does not store visual or depth data from any camera.
Analytics Data
Apple Inc. provides analytical data to provide feedback and insight on usage and app performance. This data is anonymised and must be opted-into by the user. The user can opt out at any time by going to their device settings.
