Facial Weakness Rehabilitation

face2face is an iOS app to help you recover from facial weakness.

Facial Exercises

Facial weakness and dysarthria can have many causes:

  • Stroke

  • Bell's Palsy

  • Ramsay Hunt syndrome type 2 (Herpes zoster)

  • Myasthenia gravis

  • Lyme disease

  • Sarcoidosis

  • Brain tumour

  • Head injury

It can be an upsetting condition to live with.

Regular facial exercises may help muscles to recover from weakness, improving your confidence and wellbeing.

Augmented Reality.png

Augmented Reality

face2face helps by guiding you through facial exercises in a way that does not present you with a mirror image of your face, if this is something you find distressing.

Your appearance can be customised to suit your tastes. You can also simply use a blurred or uninterrupted camera view as your confidence in your appearance improves.

Routines

face2face allows you to create a sequence of exercises that you frequently perform together.

Inform your Speech and Language Therapists, clinicians, friends, and family about which exercises you've been performing.

Calendar

You can review all the exercises you've ever completed on a day by day basis.

Reminders

A simple notification can be set to remind you to perform your exercises.

Technology.png

Technology

face2face requires an iOS device running iOS 15.0 or higher.
In devices with a TrueDepth camera, also known as the FaceID sensor, face2face uses the native ARKit to detect and show an augmented reality mask of the users face.
This provides accurate facial measurements at a high refresh rate.
If a TrueDepth camera isn't available, face2face uses the forward camera to show the user a live uninterrupted camera view or a blurred camera view.

Privacy

face2face has been made with privacy as one of it's core values.
All processing is local to your iOS device, and no data ever leaves the app without you doing so.

Future

face2face has come a long way since it was first released, and it has the potential to change the way we think about facial rehabilitation by customising exercise routines and providing measurable results.
I'm always looking to connect with users and clinicians to help guide its development. Please get in touch if you'd like to help!
